Multigrain Cheerios "Shut Up, Steve" Commercial

I am so happy I found this blog posting (below) because this has been driving me nuts. You know the Multigrain Cheerios commercial where the husband asks the wife if she's eating that cereal because it's low in fat? Then she gets all upset because she thinks he's saying she needs to watch her weight? The last line is "The box says 'Shut up, Steve.'" I noticed recently that they've made the wife sound more "chipper" and sweet. In the old version she was more aggressive and monotone. Both versions had American accents. I was curious about it so I googled it and found out that the commercial started in the UK with actors with British accents, then was carried over to Canada and then to America with "American" accents. Not sure how many times this commercial has been changed, but it's SO obvious (if you're like me and you remember every little sound every person ever makes.) If you have no idea what I'm talking about, this blog posting will mean nothing to you. But I'm very happy I'm not the only person who notices these ridiculous things!

Here it is with British accents (not the one that aired in the US):

Here's the one that aired in the US:

It's as if they think Americans can't understand British accents! So funny :)

I Googled the commercial just to find out if they were related. It creeps me out. :-) Then I realized everyone suspects the same thing.

The most honest depiction of marriage--since Orson Welles and Ruth Collins sat at the dinner table in CITIZEN KANE

Can anyone post a link to see the commercial again? And is this girl (woman) in another Cheerios commercial the same? the man isnt. The new ad doesnt have dialogue.

In Canada there's a whole new commercial airing now where the husband is talking to a friend about the cereal when the wife walks in.

shut up steve, has now formally been in silence, as he died December 2010

I have always hated that commercial...

a.) the voices don't match the mouth movements
b.) the box is obviously fake
3.) it's just stupid. the wife is a bitch and the husband has no balls.

I did a search of it for the first time today and found out about the whole British->American dubbing thing! It's so weird! WHY would they think that was necessary? I am glad they don't play the stupid thing anymore.

Oh and to add insult to injury, MultiGrain Cheerios are actually NOT HEALTHY. They have a high glycemic index.
